100 UNDER £100 is a series exploring some of the best boutique hotels, B&B’s and guest houses in the world to bed down for under £100 a night. The fourth installation of the series offers ten stylish places to stay in the Caribbean and Central America, from an eco-luxe design hotel in Panama City, to a cabin in Costa Rica….

Jake’s, Jamaica
Rooms from approximately £63 a night

Jamaica, Jamaicaaaaaaaaaa: A tiny island with some serious cultural weight to counterbalance its postcard-pretty coastlines. Who wouldn’t want to visit? The hotels offerings on the island often veer towards the soulless, all-inclusive side of the spectrum, that’s no reason give in to seven days of watery rum punch and monotonous buffet dinners. Instead, stay at Jake’s: 18 seriously chic cottages, two great onsite restaurants and one world-class spa. The numbers; they add up.

Los Patios Hotel, Granada, Nicaragua
Rooms from approximately £76 a night

Sexy Central American city + cool Danish owners = very stylish boutique hotel. Or at least, that’s the case for Los Patios, where Spanish colonial architecture meets streamlined Scandinavian style. Take a dip in the ecological swimming pool, have a massage on the patio, or enjoy some of the hotel’s homemade Nicaraguan fare. When you’re ready to venture out, the historic Calle Corrales district of Granada is right outside the door.

Tantalo Hotel, Panama City
Rooms from approximately £95 a night

The stylish, atmospheric Tantalo is not just any old boutique design hotel, oh no – it’s an eco-luxe boutique design hotel. That means tables made from repurposed staircases, a restaurant built from reclaimed wood, and a ‘living wall’ of almost 1000 lush native plants in the lobby. Other reasons to stop off at this include a rooftop bar serving excellent food and drinks, plus cool, minimalist rooms right in the heart of the historic San Felipe Casco Viejo district.

Iberostar Parque Central, Havana, Cuba
Rooms from approximately £91 a night

Resist the lure of the island’s many all-inclusive beach resorts and opt for a slice of ‘real’ Cuba in the heart of Havana instead. As hotels in this beautiful but dilapidated city go, the Parque Central is in pretty good nick – there’s a gym, sauna, and incredible rooftop pool. Don’t forget to stop off at the iconic La Floridita bar around the corner for a mojito as Hemingway would’ve drunk it.

Love Hotel, Saint Martin
Rooms from approximately £81 a night

Helloooooooo, paradise. Seven simple rooms, set on a breathtaking beach in the French collectivity of Saint-Martin. Also: a tapas restaurant, free wifi and a bar serving everything from Carib beer to Ruinart champagne. Good luck forcing yourself to leave.

White Sands Cove Resort, Belize
Rooms from approximately £89 a night

Like the sound of baskin’ on a beach in Belize? Of course you do. Try it at the White Sands Cove Resort, where you can rent a one or two bed condo (with aircon, satellite TV, wifi, etc) and live the Central American dream for a week or two. If the sunbathing gets boring, try a spot of cave tubing, Mayan ruin touring, jungle canopy zip lining, or good old-fashioned diving and snorkelling.

Sea-U Guest House, Barbados
Rooms from approximately £95 a night

A hotel worth staying at for the pun-tastic appeal of the name alone, Sea-U is appealing on other, possibly more significant levels too: an oceanfront view, pretty hotel gardens, chic Bajan-style rooms, eco-friendly credentials, excellent service… Oh, and it’s also in Barbados. That always helps.

Turtle Cove Inn, Turks & Caicos
Rooms from approximately £65 per night

Think you can’t afford to visit the uber-expensive island of Turks & Caicos, beloved by Diddy and Mariah and other mononymous millionaires? Think again, my friend! At the pastel-hued Turtle Cove Inn, the very affordable rooms couldn’t be described as luxurious but they do overlook a pretty marina just ten minutes walk from the nearest beach. Who goes to the Caribbean to sit in their hotel room, anyway?

Las Flores Surf Club, El Salvador
Rooms from approximately £98 per night

With oceanfront suites overlooking some of the best breaks in Central America, Las Flores in a perfect destination for experienced surfers and novices alike. Learn how to ride waves with the help of the inhouse Billabong instructors, then refuel over a seafood dinner by the sand. If you want to avoid the surf altogether, there’s also a cliffside yoga and meditation deck, plus full spa. Oh, and hammocks. Hammocks are always good, aren’t they?

El Sol, Costa Rica
Rooms from approximately £63 a night

If you like your travel experiences to err on the memorable side, then try a stay in one of the cabins at El Sol, in the magically named Monteverde Cloud Forest. Take a horseback ride to a waterfall, swim in an infinity pool, or just have a general frolic in amongst all the incredible surrounding nature. There’s no TV or Internet, but views like these are made for committing to memory, not Instagram.
