Caravan reminds me of a restaurant in downtown New York, and there are few places where eating out feels like going out more than it does in downtown New York. On warm summer nights, people sit by Caravan’s huge open windows and spill out onto the street. You can share ‘small plates’ of squid pancake and confit rabbit and drink pear and prosecco Bellinis. It’s sophisticated in a self-conscious New York way, and all the more worth visiting for it.
It is expensive though, so I keep Caravan for times when I’m in the mood for a drink and a snack rather than a full-blown feast. It’s also really good for brunch – as I’ve mentioned here.
