Less a bar and more of a shack on Talamanca Beach, Chiringuito Alegría buzzes from early evening onwards, as people peel themselves off the sand for an evening drink and locals descend in packs to drink sangria and sing along to the Spanish guitarists who rock up most nights of the week.
The appeal of this bar lies in its drinks (which are soothingly strong), its service (which is friendly and efficient) and its vibe (which is authentic but inclusive). The Alegría also seems to be rightfully renowned for its mojitos, which are served either straight up or with the addition of pulped-up fresh strawberries. A great place to end a sunny day on the beach or start a night out - get the head bartender pictured above to select a liquor for your pre-party shot(s). He will do a very good job.
