Princess Garden is pretty much perfect. So perfect that I’m wary of disclosing its existence. But hey, I don’t live in London at the moment so someone – that would be you – may as well enjoy the best dim sum restaurant in the city on my behalf. Yeah, I said it.
From its location on a seriously money Mayfair street to a crispy, chewy golden cuttlefish cheung fun that I always up end up ordering twice (it’s that good), everything about Princess Garden is unexpectedly delightful. As well as that incredible cheung fun, I also love the fragrant prawn and chive dumplings, the succulent shu mai, and the always reliable rendition of Peking duck. The room is airy and light-filled, the reception area is surprisingly bouji and the service is impeccable – on a recent visit I was hungover and wincing in the strong light of the afternoon sun when a waiter walked over and lowered the blinds next to my table without saying a word. I mean, COME ON.
And get this: it’s not expensive. Nope, totally bog-standard dim sum prices to be found here, ranging from about £3-6 (I can’t attest for the rest of the menu). I don’t get it either. But go forth and enjoy. Have a har gau for me, yeah?
